• Professor Jason Cheung Pui-yin (Orthopaedics and Traumatology, SClinMed) received two Best Basic Science Awards from the APSS 6th Annual Meeting @ Spineweek 2023 for the papers ‘Core Planar Cell Polarity Genes VANGL1 and VANGL2 in Predisposition to Congenital Scoliosis’ and ‘The Electromyographic Discrepancy of Paravertebral Muscles Predicts an Early Curve Progression of Untreated Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis’ in May 2023. • Professor Kenneth Wong Kak-yuen (Surgery, SClinMed) became President Elect of the Asian Association of Pediatric Surgeons (2024-2026) in November 2022. He also became President Elect of the Pacific Association of Pediatric Surgeons (2024-2025) in September 2023. • Professor Doris Yu Sau-fung (Nursing) was inducted as 2023 Fellows of the Gerontological Society of America (GSA) at the GSA’s 2023 Annual Scientific Meeting in November 2023. • Dr Amy Cheung Yim-ling (Orthopaedics and Traumatology, SClinMed) won the 2022 International Society of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology (SICOT) Research Awards – Best Paper from Female Researcher / Clinician Award. • The following Faculty members were awarded the Healthy Longevity Catalyst Awards (Hong Kong) in the Healthy Longevity Global Competition held by the US National Academy of Medicine in October 2023: – Dr Geng Leiluo (Medicine, SClinMed) – Dr Ralf Jauch (Biomedical Sciences) – Dr Rio Sugimura (Biomedical Sciences) • Dr Herbert Kwok Wang-chun (Medicine, SClinMed) received the APSR Travel Award in August 2023 to the JRS Annual Meeting 2024. Dr Kwok was also appointed to be editor in SciBase Critical Care and Emergency Medicine in September 2023. • Dr Jojo Kwok Yan-yan (Nursing) was awarded the Emerging Nurse Researcher/Scholar Award 2023 by Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing at the 34th International Nursing Research Congress in July 2023. • Dr Wendy Lam Wing-tak (Public Health) was elected President of the International Psycho-oncology Society from 2023 to 2025 in September 2023. Dr Lam also received the 2023 Distinguished Merit Award by the International Society of Nurses in Cancer Care in October 2023. • Dr Elaine Lee Yuen-phin (Diagnostic Radiology, SClinMed) was awarded Distinction for her oral presentation at the 22nd International Cancer Imaging Society Meeting and Annual Teaching Course for the paper ‘Treatment response evaluation by PET/CT after neoadjuvant chemotherapy in advanced ovarian cancer’ in September 2023. • Dr Kathy Leung Sze-man (Public Health) was named one of the ‘11 Early-Career Researchers to Watch’ by Nature Medicine in 2022. • Dr Philip Li Hei (Medicine, SClinMed) was appointed as member of the ‘Expert Committee to Investigate Recent Incidence of Drug Allergies and Their Aftereffects’ by the Sri Lanka Ministry of Health in July 2023. • Dr Loey Mak Lung-yi (Medicine, SClinMed) received the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) Emerging Leader Award in July 2023. • Dr Kendrick Shih Co (Ophthalmology, SClinMed) was selected as the Hong Kong representative for the 2024 Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology Leadership Development Programme. • Dr Tse Ka-yu (Obstetrics and Gynaecology, SClinMed) was appointed as Co-Chair of Cervical Cancer Elimination Committee of the Asia and Oceania Federation of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (AOFOG) (2022-2024). • Dr Pauline Yeung Pui-ning (Critical Care Medicine Unit, SClinMed) received the Assembly Education Award at the 26th Congress of the Asian Pacific Society of Respirology in November 2022. Dr Yeung was also selected as one of the Outstanding Authors (2022) by the Journal of Thoracic Disease. 26
