Bronze Medal – Research team supervised by Professor Julian Alexander Tanner (Biomedical Sciences) comprising Dr Louisa Lo Hoi-ying and Dr William Whitehouse (Advanced Biomedical Instrumentation Centre) Project: Aptasensor for Sepsis Diagnostic • HKU-Shenzhen Hospital won the Infection Control Excellence Award at the Asian Hospital Management Awards 2022. • Dr Joshua Ho Wing-kei (Biomedical Sciences), Dr Gary Lau Kui-kai (Medicine, SClinMed), Mr Gordon Qian (PhD Student, Biomedical Sciences) and other team members received the Paul Dudley White International Scholar Award, Hypertension Scientific Sessions 2022, presented by the American Heart Association. • Dr Hu Yong (Orthopaedics and Traumatology, SClinMed) and his team were awarded the Best Paper Award 2022 for the paper ‘State-of-art non-invasive brain-computer interface for neural rehabilitation: A review’ by the Journal of Neurorestoratology in March 2023. • Dr Philip Li Hei (Medicine, SClinMed) and his Immunology Team were certified as both an Urticaria Centre of Reference and Excellence (UCARE) and an Angioedema Centre of Reference and Excellence (ACARE) by the Global Allergy and Asthma European Network (GA2LEN) in 2022. • Dr George Tipoe (Biomedical Sciences) and his team’s project ‘From silos to teamwork: Interprofessional education at HKU’ was awarded Teaching and Learning Strategy of the Year at THE Awards Asia 2023. • The research article on COVID-19 ‘A familial cluster of pneumonia associated with the 2019 novel coronavirus indicating person-to-person transmission: a study of a family cluster’ by the research team comprising Professor Yuen Kwok-Yung, Dr Jasper Chan Fuk-woo (Microbiology, SClinMed) and their team members from HKUMed, in collaboration with the HKU-Shenzhen Hospital, has been named as one of the landmark papers in 200-year history of The Lancet. 40
