During his tenure in these positions, Dr Chan established professional educational programmes and related education and travel funds. He spearheaded several historical surveys on Child Health Services in Hong Kong, one of which resulted in the establishment of the present-day Student Health Service. Dr Chan was also instrumental in the establishment of the Commission on Children and the Hong Kong Children’s Hospital in 2018. Beyond Hong Kong, Dr Chan initiated strategic planning for different paediatric subspecialities and paediatric services in the Mainland. Beyond paediatrics, Dr Chan contributed to the formation of local and international nursing professional bodies, the specialisation of Paediatric Nursing in Hong Kong, and the development of other allied health professionals, in particular, young professionals in training.
