HKU Medical Alumni Association (HKUMAA) organised the 4th Sharing Forum of the 130 Mentorship Programme on 20 May 2023. The event was a great success, bringing together family medicine specialists, HR professionals, mentors and mentees, MBBS students, and young medical alumni. Over 60 participants joined the session.

The first part was a panel discussion focusing on the specialty of Family Medicine & Primary Healthcare. The three panelists were Dr Welchie Ko 高煒杰, Chief of Service and Consultant of Family Medicine & Primary Healthcare Department and Service Director (Primary & Community Health Care) of HKWC; Dr Emily Tse 謝翠怡, Clinical Assistant Professor, Department of Family Medicine and Primary Care, School of Clinical Medicine, HKUMed and Dr Yiu Yuk-kwan 姚玉筠, Chairlady, Board of Vocational Training & Standards, The Hong Kong College of Family Physicians. They shared their personal experiences and highlighted the skills and training required to practice in the specialty. The opportunities, challenges, and rewards of working in the field of family medicine and primary care were also discussed.

At the second part of the Forum, Mr William Kwok 郭子安, the Cluster General Manager (Human Resources) of HKEC brought inspiring tips on resume writing and interviewing. It was followed by Dr Yiu Yuk-kwan and Dr Welchie Ko sharing their experiences in selecting interns for their teams.

The event was a valuable opportunity for medical students and young alumni to connect with experienced family physicians and gained a better understanding of the diverse and rewarding career opportunities available in Family Medicine & Primary Healthcare.
