Improving cancer survival rates mean increases in long-term post-treatment complications and psychosocial hurdles. Opening the workshop, the HKU JCICC Director, Dr Wendy Lam Wing-tak (藍詠德), introduced the Cancer Survivorship Clinic, a primary care service, that aims to assess and empower survivors in symptom management, help reduce risk of recurrence and promoting healthier lifestyles in the community to achieve a full return to normal life. Dr Lam shared with nurses the research insights on psychosocial care and the role of self-management in cancer survivorship management.

The workshop trains registered nurses to deliver cancer survivorship clinics. Throughout the training, nurses will acquire knowledge and skills in conducting triaged-based assessments of common types of cancer and their common signs and symptoms corresponding to different treatments and collaborating with the multidiscipline team: dietitian, physical trainer, counsellor; to provide evidence-based advice and education to support cancer survivors in their rehabilitation journey. Following the workshop, nurses will join a practicum to help transfer their skills and knowledge into practice.
