This summer, more than 120 Secondary 5 students passionate about medicine and in pursuing a career as a doctor, attended the HKUMed advanced programme, namely ‘HKUMedify: Summer Immersion Programme’.
During the 5-day event, students explored MBBS programme in a greater depth during a variety of medicine-related talks, hands-on workshops, PBL (problem-based learning) classes, and visited the Clinical Trial Centre at Queen Mary Hospital, and Gleneagles Hong Kong Hospital organised by esteemed Faculty members.
Professor Chak-sing Lau (劉澤星), Dean of Medicine, gave a Dean’s master class on the final day of the programme. Students were encouraged to contemplate the faith, values, and ethics of being a doctor.
‘HKUMedify: First Step to Medicine’ is a HKUMed Summer Programme, aiming to give a series of HKUMed taster lectures to Secondary 3-4 students.
The 3-day programme was well-attended by close to 150 secondary school students, through lectures by Faculty members and talks with student mentors, participants acquired fundamental knowledge across various medical and healthcare-related domains which prepared them to be more than ready to start their journey as medical students in the future.
