On 7 November 2020, the School of Public Health hosted a live virtual simulation for secondary school students worldwide entitled "Walking through a Global Outbreak".

The simulation was a virtual tabletop exercise with 40 participants from 25 local and overseas schools grouped into teams representing different countries. Dr Ryan Au Yeung Shiu-lun (歐陽兆倫), Assistant Professor, and Dr Phyu Phyu Thin Zaw, Lecturer, from the School of Public Health led the simulation. Countries represented by the teams included India, Myanmar, and the United Kingdom.

The simulation exposed the participants to real-world challenges faced by different stakeholders in an evolving global outbreak situation. Working with teammates and our coaches, the participants gained a deeper understanding of the crisis management strategies and complex decision making that international health institutions and governments need to exercise during a global outbreak.
