The School of Public Health announced the selection result of the 3rd cohort of the NAM-HKU Fellowship in Global Health Leadership, a scheme generously supported by Dr Patrick Poon (潘燊昌), HKU Council member. The aim of the scheme is to train world class global health leaders who will bridge science with policy to put forth informed solutions to some of the most critical health challenges facing the world today and in the future.

Among nearly 170 applications received from 39 places of origins across six continents, Dr Holly Hou Lei (侯蕾) has been selected as the 3rd NAM-HKU Fellow in Global Health Leadership.

Born and raised in China and received higher education from Denmark, Dr Hou worked in various international entities with a focus on health. Before joining the fellowship, she was a Health Field Officer at the Regional Delegation for East Asia, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). She has over ten years of education and training as a natural science researcher, and has been working on cross-disciplinary projects in animal sciences, virology, parasitology, physiology and biochemistry. Her work at the ICRC aimed at supporting global health and humanitarian aid with China’s increasing role, through research, analysis and diplomacy with key stakeholders and decision-makers.

During her fellowship training, Dr Hou will make visits to Washington, D.C. to learn about the work of NAM; participate in academic attachment at School of Public Health; and receive a scholarship to undertake the Master of Public Health programme at HKU.
