Professor Burkhard Becher, GRF/ECS External Advisor, HKU, and Professor of Experimental Immunology Institute, University of Zurich, delivered a Zoom lecture titled ‘Mapping the Immune System in Chronic Inflammatory Diseases: One cell at a time’. The event was hosted by the School of Biomedical Sciences. The lecture discussed recent advances in single cell technologies and how we apply this technology to immunophenotype patients with inflammatory disease for the identification of disease-relevant signatures for diagnosis, patient stratification and therapy responses. In addition, Professor Becher also gave a grantsmanship sharing during the seminar to share his tips and approaches on grant applications.
Following the Zoom lecture, there were one-on-one consultation meetings on 26 and 30 August 2021, PI presentation and group discussion on 27 and 31 August 2021. These allowed PIs, in particular Assistant Professors and new staff, to seek advice from Professor Becher and members of the School on GRF/ECS proposal ideas for the preparation of grant submission.
