Hosted by the School of Public Health, the first round of pitching of the ‘Public Health in Action - Student Knowledge Exchange Competition’ was held on 18 June 2021. Eight groups of HKUMed students presented their innovative public health outreach initiatives, and received insightful feedback from the Selection Panel chaired by Professor Keiji Fukuda (福田敬二), Director of the School of Public Health. Five teams were selected to enter the final round, and a seed money of HK$8,000 was provided for each team to put their ideas into practice in the community over the summer.

On 29 October 2021, the final presentation was held to review the impact of their project deliverables. The Gold prizes went to Team ‘Escaping from Vaping’, who educated secondary school students on the harm of e-cigarettes through school outreach, live laboratory experiments and videos; and Team ‘Lantern’, who developed a mobile app providing information on elderly care for domestic helpers in Hong Kong. Each of them was awarded a prize of HK$20,000.
