University Grants Committee

Foreword

On behalf of the Student Organising Committee, it is our pleasure and privilege to welcome you to the 28th Research Postgraduate Symposium (RPS), a student-led event held annually at the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine of The University of Hong Kong since 1996.

Our theme this year is “Fusion for Fruition: Articulating Discoveries for Transformative Healthcare.” From using artificial intelligence to investigate cellular mechanisms to uncovering health trends from population big data, studies have delved into unprecedented depths to create pioneering discoveries with recent technological advancements. As the analytical approaches continue to mature, the opportunity to fuse multidisciplinary efforts for translational applications that improve patient outcomes has never been greater. Making the most of Hong Kong’s geographical location and our faculty’s rich heritage, we believe our RPS at the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine is the ideal petri dish to facilitate knowledge exchange and incubate synergistic collaborations between study teams, departments, and institutions. This year, we are honoured to have three renowned scholars from around the world share their insights and expertise with us.

This year’s RPS marks the resumption of normalcy after the three-year-long pandemic. Our organising committee strives to create a welcoming and inspiring platform for our research postgraduate students to share their findings within the faculty’s research community. We are pleased to announce that all presentations, workshops, and events will be conducted in person. We, therefore, warmly invite our fellow students and researchers across the faculty to take some time off from their work and participate in the lively scientific discussions and engaging events of this RPS.

We would take this opportunity to express our deepest gratitude for the support provided by the Research Grants Council of Hong Kong, the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, and the sponsors who made this symposium come to fruition. Our heartfelt appreciation goes to Professor Danny Chan, Miss Kimmy Liu, Miss Rosalie Loo, and Mr Thomas Leon for their warm guidance and help organising this event.

We hope you enjoy this symposium and look forward to meeting you all!
